From June 2024 to June 2025, 15 crochet mushrooms were exhibited along Chatfield's Lost Creek Hiking Trail  in a scavenger-hunt style public art installation. Titled the Lost Creek Fungi Hunt and created by Rochester-based fiber artist Lydia Hansen, the installation explored mushroom species native to SE MN.

Look back on that project in this new exhibition, showcasing new sculptural works combining foraged wood and fiber create new fungal art. Additionally, experience the Fungi Hunt itself through selected photos taken by Lydia across the year, showcasing the artwork and the trail through four seasons. Visitors are invited to (gently) touch, take photos, and enjoy this peek into the diversity of fungi Minnesota is home to. These essential organisms play a vital role in the life cycle of natural environments, disposing of dead matter and dispersing vital nutrients to support new life.

About the artist: Lydia Hansen has been practicing crochet and fiber art in SE MN for 15 years. Her work focuses on the exploration of texture and color through art that invites audience interaction through touch. She's particularly interested in the 3D qualities of crochet and draws inspiration from shapes and patterns in nature to challenge conventional ideas of what crochet can be.
